One of the guy’s sent me all the info I wanted and the other one doesn’t.

It’s a little annoying because I can’t do anything without all this to defend his position in the company.

I’m gonna have to kick ass and chew gum, but I’m all outta gum!

I let him explain things to them and I hope things have gone in. I’m not sure though.

I sent them a new sheet to fill in each week so I could follow what as going on but I’ve not got one back off either of them. If they don’t do as they’re supposed to, I may have to get mean.

They have two weeks to sort things out and turn it all around. For their sakes, I hope they can.

The most important thing is to create an open dialogue with colleagues so that they know what they’re doing right and how they can improve.

Obviously, telling someone “you’re doing something wrong” isn’t a good motivator, but telling them “here’s how we can improve your performance” is good.

We have a meeting with our sales team tomorrow to try and motivate them and make them work more effectively. That should be fun! We’re going to spend time working through things with them so that they become more effective in their sales and bringing in the necessary cash to keep the company going.

On a plus side, my boss told me that he was very happy with the Facebook page that I was running. His exact words were “you’re going to be a real asset and a great manager for the company.”

Nice!

We’re going to show them this by having a meeting next week and putting their income against their sales targets. They’re going to have to see that there’s a problem.

I’m the deputy director and they seem not to take me seriously. Nice. Maybe it’s because I’m a girl.

My boss hired me to be the nasty one of the team and make sure everything ran smoothly. Unfortunately, that means I get huge pressure from him to perform to the best of my abilities and to get a max from my sales team.

Normal for a manager, I hear you say.

So, I explained the situation to the lads that our company needs them. But, apparently they’ve not twigged that there’s a fire under their butts. They have targets to meet and if they don’t, they’re gonna find themselves out on their ear.

That ear seems not to have heard that, coz when a friend of mine asked if they were under pressure for their targets they said “no. But MH’s under loads of pressure.”

So, I’m going to have to find another way of making them understand what work truly means. The boss and I are going to have to explain that work means results. I’m not paying them to spend the day on Facebook. That’s my job! And even that’s for work.

People don’t get that the hours I spend on Facebook and Twitter aren’t for my own personal enjoyment but to build up brand awareness and interact with our users. I only go on my own Facebook or Twitter for a few minutes a day. And most of my time on my personal Twitter is reading through all the trends I’m researching for work to make my media marketing strategy better.

So, yeah, I may not look like I’m doing a lot, but I’m working hard to build up the strategies and best practice tools for the company. I may be busting the guys’ nuts to get the sales going, but only so we can pay them.

I’m not mean to the guys. I try to offer constructive ideas to improve their techniques and give them the tools and skills to do their job better. I don’t yell or scream but I make it clear what is needed. If that makes me a bitch, so be it.

I’ve been watching what’s going on online and following things. It’s really interesting.

Anyway, the course is going well. I’ve decided that I want to do my thesis on Social media, especially social TV. It’s the future of TV as we know it and YouTube has been proving that for years.

Basically, I want to work in Social Media marketing after this. I love using Social Media as a marketing tool for the company and I think there are so may different ways to do that.

I’ve been researching loads for my thesis and I’ve read loads of interesting articles about it. It’s actually really interesting see what can be done.

This week was the first week back at college for most of us. The BTS and DEESMa students started before the rest of us, but this was a week to start things back up for everyone.

I’m starting up my Masters next Monday after  the ad week. We spent the whole week making ads for different local companies and there was a little competition to see which group won. Unfortunately, we came joint 3rd. Sucks. There was a lot of bad feeling about the winner.

People were saying that they cheated, so it wasn’t fair that they won. But, oh well.

It’s being a tiring week and we didn’t get in til 3am this morning. Got up at mid-day, so got to sleep in a bit. May still have to have a nap later on, though.

Yesterday was the visit to the Stade Lavallois FC for the kids of Autisme Mayenne. This local charity helps families of autistic kids and I’m a volunteer.

As my students needed a project to get behind I chose to get them to organise a trip to Stade Lavallois. The kids from the association got a guided tour of the stadium from the Financial Director himself. It was great.

It was not tough to organise and the students got to see the difference they were making. It cost us nothing but really gave the little kids a boost.

It doesn’t take much. Just a bit of one’s own time.

I know the people taking over, but that doesn’t mean I’m any more assured. I don’t know if I’ll have a job next year.

I guess I’ve just got to wait and see.
